If I Live Until Morning is a memoir about a young woman's survival and recovery from a catastrophic adventure. Her quest to heal, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, is raw, heart-wrenching, and uplifting. The author's account reveals her struggles to follow her dreams and find peace, meaning, and purpose after a traumatic, life-changing ordeal.

Ever wonder if you could survive an adventure gone wrong?

If given a second chance, would you live your life differently?

After skiing more than 200 miles along California's John Muir Trail, Jean faces death from a mountaineering accident. Broken and bleeding on the highest peak in the continental United States, she vows to realize her greatest dreams if she lives until morning. Jean's five-day escape from the Sierra Nevada Mountains is a testimony of courage, endurance, and the will to live. Getting out of the wilderness alive is not the end of her ordeal. Her three-decade journey takes her from the depths of despair and chronic pain to the high peaks of Asia and on travels around the world. When the specter of Mount Whitney continues to shatter her life, Jean befriends Tibetan Buddhist yogis. Their ancient wisdom becomes her guiding light as she navigates her way through pain and confusion.

This biography takes readers on travels through some of the world's most breathtaking mountains while providing inspiration and motivation for living one's dreams. If I Live Until Morning's candid reflections on post-survival trauma will resonate with those facing difficulties, seeking hope, or on the path to healing.

About the Author

Jean Muenchrath's passion for hiking, skiing and exploring wild places began as a child in Colorado. In 1982 she traversed the John Muir Trail on skinny Nordic skis. Her strength, courage and determination helped her survive a near fatal accident on Mount Whitney and a five-day epic to self-evacuate.

Her love for nature and travel have take her to South America and Asia. Muenchrath has worked as a trekking guide in Nepal and Thailand and as a consultant in Bhutan with the World Wildlife Fund. She was a park ranger with the National Park Service for over thirty years. Today she gives inspirational talks about pursuing one's dreams, outdoor adventures and what she learned from her tragedy.

Her book, If I Live Until Morning, was a finalist in the Best Book Awards in the Travel: Guides & Essays Category sponsored by the American Book Fest. It's been featured in interviews with Backpacker Radio and on Colorado Public Radio.

Jean believes that adventures arise out of personal dreams. Her book is packed with them. Join her on backcountry ski trips, climbing on sun baked rocks, hiking through the Himalayas in Nepal, India and Patagonia, and exploring the jungles of Thailand. Learn about Tibetan culture and wander with her through alleys in Katmandu, Delhi and Bangkok. Through these adventures she discovered the power of place and the power within.

Consequently, her book is much more than an adventure survival story! It's a memoir--the experience of a real life survival epic changes a person. Trying to stay alive against-all-odds can have profound lasting effects that permeate into every aspect of one's life. This book's greater story is about a search for inner peace and overcoming adversity--healing pain and loss, recovering from emotional and physical trauma and reclaiming self-esteem.

In this memoir she aspires to give readers the inspiration to realize their greatest dreams--and the strength and courage to transform their own life's challenges.

From the Back Cover

"Fear was my only companion. I was afraid that my weight, backpack and skis would throw me off balance and send me plummeting into the void."
