Like many such series volumes, this compilation of essays, in the Contemporary Issue Companion series, brings together contributors--some known, some surprising or obscure--to reflect on a timely topic, with plenty of data to support their arguments. In this book, the editor goes a step further by including an entire chapter of personal essays from people who have actually struggled with teen alcoholism or seen effects on a friend or family member. This chapter alone is worth the entire volume. The voices, from bitter to wise, resonate with honesty. The rest of the book, which includes charts and sometimes staggering facts, will help in standard research, but it's the powerful first-person perspectives that will make teens stop and think.
