Kindergarten-Grade 4-Animal Fun presents 20 creatures with a single-sentence introduction to their behavior or habitat. Subjects range from the simplest clam and crab displays to more complicated puppets. The most unusual projects include interactive elements: a rattlesnake that actually rattles its tail, a maze to demonstrate the complexity of a prairie-dog habitat, and flowers with glitter "pollen" spread by a bee. Warning: Play-Doh "candy" and "cake" decorators may need additional reminders not to eat their creations. Projects mixes art education with entertainment. With a wide variety of ideas, the book encourages creativity through weaving patterns, creating a mosaic, making Faberg -inspired eggs, or utilizing a hole punch for an exercise in pointillism. In both books, colored strips along the tops of the pages display needed materials. The crafts have clearly written, step-by-step instructions; brightly colored cartoon illustrations; and color-mixing charts.
