Reviews

Gr. 4-up. Just in time for the holidays comes a book chock-full of reasons to celebrate. Coming Together is a collection of traditions used to observe occasions both large and intimate. Naming ceremonies, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and family reunions are the focus of this volume that lays the groundwork for starting or enhancing significant family gatherings. Using a nuts-and-bolts approach, the authors enrich each section with crafts, menus, and activities designed for participants of all ages. Christmas, for instance, gets a fresh twist with a suggestion to "create a generosity circle" and give thanks with family, friends, and neighbors as a prelude to a joint community service project. A substantial collection of color photographs show several families caught in the act of celebrating and loving one another. A book that will appeal to a wide range of readers. Terry Glover
