Arthur and Ira Friedberg have been prominent figures in numismatics for more than three decades, building on their work at the family firm, Coin & Currency Institute, and coauthoring major reference works including Gold Coins of the World and Paper Money of the United States, now in their tenth and twenty-third editions. Arthur, a George Washington University and NYU graduate, and Ira, a Boston University journalism graduate, also collaborated on the long-running Appraising and Selling Your Coins and oversaw updated editions of R.S. Yeoman’s world-coin references. Arthur has written extensively for The Numismatist and Coin World, consulted internationally—including for the United Nations—and testified before the U.S. Senate on commemorative coin legislation, while also serving as a past president of the International Association of Professional Numismatists and a member of the PNG. Together, the Friedbergs have earned top honors in the field, including the IAPN’s Prix d’Honneur and the ANA Medal of Merit, with Arthur additionally receiving the ANA’s Heath Literary Award and the Swiss Vrenelli Prize for outstanding contributions to numismatics.
