Cotton Mather, one of the leading intellectuals of colonial America, has often been overshadowed by his younger Puritan contemporary, Jonathan Edwards. About the Author:
Cotton Mather (1663-1728), trained at Harvard and ordained in 1685, was a Puritan pastor and scholar in Boston. Reiner Smolinski (PhD, Pennsylvania State University), general editor of the Biblia Americana project, is professor of early American literature at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. His previous publications include The Threefold Paradise of Cotton Mather and The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory: The Millennial Impulse in Early American Literature.
