Kindergarten-Grade 4-Songs, poems, and excerpts from stories are accompanied by vintage illustrations by such luminaries as Arthur Rackham and Jesse Willcox Smith. These pictures are well matched with the text and are full of appeal, although probably more for adults than for children. The origins of the art, taken from postcards, children's books, and issues of St. Nicholas magazine from the 1800s to the 1930s, etc., are acknowledged. The songs and poems, although credited, are not differentiated from one another in any way; both appear on a page in the same layout and no music is included. Most of these selections can be found in other collections, so the only thing that sets this particular offering apart is its array of high-quality, classic reproductions.-E. M.
