From Library Journal:
Hunger in America has become a national health epidemic, more widespread than at any time in the last decade. A team of prominent physicians and other health experts spent ten months traveling throughout the United States documenting the nature and scope of this problem and assessing the health effects of hunger. Their report goes beyond mere documentation to focus on some of the causes of increased hunger in the United States, with particular emphasis on the impact of federal government policies. They describe the many ways in which the bureaucracy erects obstacles that prevent qualified and needy people from obtaining the help they deserve. Finally, both short-term and long-term solutions for eliminating hunger in America are presented. Highly recommended. Ken Phifer, Montgomery Cty. Dept. of Public Libraries/Montgomery Coll. Lib., Rockville, Md.
