Reviews

Kennedy offers sound advice on the ancient craft of uncut stonemasonry. He covers where and how to gather rubble stones and how to stack them to build walls (both dry and mortared), foundations, small dams, steps, chimneys, and other constructs. Drawing on his broad artisan's knowledge, he digresses on topics as diverse as the history of mortar and the modern-day use of wood for fuel. In many ways, this book is like an old fieldstone wallrather rambling and pieced together, but useful just the same. For larger public library how-to collections.
