Although the Convair Aircraft Company built some of the world's best seaplanes and bombers during World War II the company's rise to prominence as a builder of fighters and attack aircraft did not occur until after 1945. This companion publication to Robert E Bradley's Convair Advanced Designs: Secret Projects from San Diego, 1923-1962, covers these new aircraft types in the same detailed and comprehensive style.

Previously unpublished company photographs, models, and drawings of such radical concepts as a vertical takeoff ground-attack fighter and giant eight-engine double-decker military transport combine with other futuristic designs some of which eventually evolved into production aircraft.

With much new and comprehensive information and highly detailed technical specifications, Convair Advanced Designs II is a natural follow-up for owners of Bradley's first volume.

From the Inside Flap:
Although such great Convair aircraft as the Catalina, Liberator and Delta Dart are well known to aviation enthusiasts, the company that built them was also responsible for some of the most imaginative and innovative aircraft ever built. Originally known as Consolidated, and later Convair, this famous San Diego-based company designed, produced and flew some truly remarkable aircraft. From supersonic seaplanes and VTOL fighters, to dedicated counter-insurgency aircraft and even a rocket-propelled bomber, Convair consistently pushed the boundaries of aeronautical design. In just over 40 years the top speed of frontline fighters grew from less than 200 mph to in excess of Mach 2, and during the 1950s and 1960s in particular the size and speed of aircraft increased almost exponentially, such was the rate of progress. Every new design seemed sleeker, faster and more futuristic than it’s predecessor, it really did seem that the sky was no longer the limit.Copiously illustrated and diligently researched by respected aviation author Robert E. Bradley, this book examines in detail the successes- and failures- of one of America’s greatest aircraft manufacturers.
About the Author:
Robert Bradley has an established career in the aeronautics industry. His career spanned 30+ years at Convair Astronautics. After retirement he volunteered as an archivist at the San Diego Air & Space Museum specializing in the space and missile collection, and Convair archives.
