Except for salads, which have somehow always flummoxed this region (New Englanders tend to glue things together with jello), each section offers major triumphs--the mighty chowders, breads, boiled dinners, seafood, the British-flavored desserts, the relishes. Good, basic New England cookery with glossary and historical notes.
