The discovery of a complete scroll of Isaiah (1QIs a) in a Judaean Desert cave in 1947 began a new chapter in what may be termed the archaeology of ancient Hebrew manuscripts. Using such sources, it is now possible to observe first-hand the process of transmission of the Hebrew Bible in its early stages. The Severus Scroll was a Hebrew Pentateuch closely related to 1QIs a. This monograph is a study of that relationship in its literary, orthographic-linguistic and historical context. [From the Preface]
