Synopsis

This is an exhaustive look at techniques of successful hunting for open-country bucks throughout the West by one of the most respected outdoor writers in the country. Often praised as the best book ever written about hunting mule deer, and in particular getting in close to them, its 14 chapters and four appendices cover such topics as Planning a Hunt, Spotting and Stalking, Optics for Spotting, Closing in on the Animal, The Stalk, Making the Shot, Tackle and Gear, Meat Care and Physical Conditioning, and other subjects. The book is the best source of information available on how to get in close to big mule deer bucks whether hunting with the rifle or the bow. Schuh's approach is from that of a bowhunter, but the advice he gives applies equally well to the rifle hunter. 70 photographs illustrate the techniques of successful mule deer hunting. 6x9, 184 pages.

About the Author

Dwight Schuh is a full-time writer and photographer. Now retired after a long career as editor of Bowhunter Magazine, his articles have appeared regularly over the years in Outdoor Life, Sports Afield, Petersen's Hunting, Bowhunter, The Complete Sportsman, and many other magazines. He has nine books published, including the classic Bugling for Elk, Modern Outdoor Survival, The Bottoms(biography of artist David Hagerbaumer) and Bowhunters Encylcopedia. He also lectures across the country on big game and western hunting.
Specializing in back country deer hunting, he has hunted mule deer in eight western states. He hunts all big game and has taken 19 species from across North America, but he considers big mule deer bucks the supreme challenge, especially with a bow.
Schuh lives in southern Idaho with his wife, Laura. They have two grown daughter. He's happy with his hunting success, but he's much more proud of his family and always tries to put them first.
