Gerald W. Haslam, called the "quintessential California writer" by critic David Peck, won the Western Literature Association's Distinguished Achievement Award for his lifetime contribution to letters. His books previously earned a Commonwealth Club Medal, a Josephine Miles Prize, the Benjamin Franklin Award, as well as honors from the San Francisco Bay Area Book Reviewers' Association. He is Professor Emeritus of English at Sonoma State University.
