About the Author
John Sloan is a Canadian diplomat who first developed an interest in wine during his undergraduate studies at Stanford University in California. He subsequently obtained his Higher Certificate (with distinction) from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust while completing graduate work at the London School of Economics in the mid 1970s. He maintained his interest in wines after joining the Canadian Foreign Service in 1975 and throughout subsequent postings in Tokyo, Beijing and Geneva. The genesis for this book grew naturally out of his experiences and travel in Switzerland where he was Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations from 1988 to 1992. John Sloan is presently Counsellor (Finance) at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo.
