There are many things that can go wrong between casting a show and Opening Night. Finding a body in the second row is just one of them. The old Regent Theatre needs repairs, its future under threat when developers gain community support to build a shopping mall on the site. In a last desperate attempt to prove that the century-old building can make money and is worth saving, theatre manager Jessica Jones encourages the committee to engage a top director to stage Agatha Christie’s classic, Appointment with Death. The roles are cast and rehearsals begin. But hot young actress Tamara Fitzpatrick is found dead in the auditorium, and police close the theatre with just a few weeks to go before opening night. Then, as if Jessica’s life wasn’t complicated enough, the police officer heading the investigation begins to take an unusual interest in her. Jessica pulls the backstage team together to keep the show on the boards, despite sinister threats that escalate to physical attacks on both her and her beloved theatre.

From the Author:
I wrote this book to help raise the profile of the delightful old Theatre Royal in Nelson, New Zealand, so that public support would rally behind the fundraising efforts to save it. Now that the grand old dame has had her six million dollar facelift and is good to last into the next century, I'm throwing my weight into helping other needy theatres. In particular, the Theatre Royal in Christchurch, devastated by the earthquakes, and the St James Theatre in Auckland, devastated by greedy developers and currently standing empty.
I urge readers anywhere to support their local theatres by any means possible. And enjoy the antics of my beloved 'fictional' backstage crew!
About the Author:
Bev Robitai currently works as a writer, book coach, and freelance photographer in Auckland, New Zealand. Her novel Murder in the Second Row was launched in June 2010 in the same historic theatre that was used as the setting. A decade of backstage experience gave her the raw material for a series of theatre-based crime novels. The second theatre novel, Body on the Stage, is already being demanded by readers and will be along shortly... Bev’s novel Eye for an Eye is the tale of a quest for justice, inspired by the actions of a real-life conman whose trail of victims made her angry enough to imagine retribution - in some very inventive ways...
