The Mishkat al-Anwar, an examination of the Light-Verse in the Koran and the symbolism of the Veils-Tradition, was written in the eleventh century by al-Ghazzali, a man of formidable intellect working in the Muslim tradition, who understood that spiritual realisation entailed making a jump from the limitations of the mind and sensory experience. Abdullah discusses the inner teaching of the Mishkat al-Anwar, explaining truths which are as relevant to twenty-first century man as to seekers a thousand years ago.
Excerpts from book
From 'The Veils-Tradition'There are always veils between you and God, separating you from realisation of God. The key to removing the veils will come from your understanding. To realise God is one of your main aims, but you have to start at the beginning and try to understand God through self-remembrance. You try to remember your real self which is a part of God. (p. 13)

From 'Those who attain'We are all here for one purpose and that is to perfect ourselves. This is the crux of Ghazzali's Mishkat al-Anwar. For an ordinary human being to evolve to the level of the Sun is a huge undertaking but this is our potential, this is what we should be striving for - to take a very big jump out of the life of the senses. (p. 77)

From the Back Cover:
Shaikh Abdullah Isa Neil Dougan (1918-1987)
Religion was an integral part of life in the family Abdullah was born into. Christianity claimed his attention at an early age. Later he realised the urgency of finding a method of channelling energy into inner development. This led him first to the Gurdjieff movement then to Sufism. He was initiated as a Naqshbandi Sufi and in the subsequent twenty years expanded his teaching to include Gnostic ideals.

From the Inside Flap:
