Cream linen cloth covered boards, with the title and author stamped in red to the cover and spine, in a card slipcase. No dust jacket, as issued. Photographs by Juergen Teller. Design by Miles Murray Sorrell. 4to (34.5cm x 22cm), pp.64, 76 colour photographs, including 2 gatefolds. Cited in Martin Parr and Gerry Badger, The Photobook: A History, Volume II (London and New York: Phaidon, 2006) pp.170-171. From Parr & Badger: "Tracht (a German word with no English equivalent, but 'national costume' comes close) began when Teller was asked to photograph Miss Venezuela in Caracas. Later, in November 1999, he photographed all the Miss World contestants when they were in London, portraying them in a way that is both expected and unexpected. These young ladies, who full intend their faces and their figures to make their fortunes, are trained to project a particular look - a mask of beauty - for the camera. Thus they do what is expected for this well-known fashion photographer and his camera (and strobe), little realizing that they are facing a latter-day Diane Arbus in disguise, and that a game is being played with the mask they are presenting."
