About the Author:

Joe Moreira is a lifetime martial artist. When he was five years old his older brother Marcos steered him into judo as a way of keeping him out of trouble. After five months of judo he started training in Brazilian jiu jitsu. He has continued his training ever since and is now a 7th degree black belt in BJJ and a 3rd degree black belt in judo. Over the years Moreira was privileged to train under many Brazilian jiu jitsu and judo greats. In BJJ he trained extensively under Reylson Gracie and Francisco Mansur. During his early years while training at the Carlson Gracie Academy he received instruction from Carlson Gracie, Rolls Gracie, Pinduka, and Mario Curpetino. By age 17 Moreira received a black belt in BJJ. Moreira was one of the first Brazilians to teach BJJ in the U.S.A. He organized the first major international BJJ tournaments in the country helping grow the popularity of the art. His dedication to, and passion for, BJJ continues with this volume.
