There is never a dull moment at Harrison Hollow State Park, where trouble seems to follow Rowdy Raccoon. Rowdy was born in the big oak tree next to Campsite #52. His best friend, Savannah Squirrel, tries her best to keep him out of trouble but it seems he is always learning a lesson about something—honesty, responsibility, friendship, humor and much more. In The Adventures of Rowdy Raccoon, the first book in the Rowdy Raccoon Series, Rowdy’s interaction with his forest friends—Tommy Turtle, Billy Beaver and the Blue Jay family not only entertains children, it encourages them to positive behavior. There are two stories included in this first book of the series.
In the first story, “Rowdy Learns to Share”, the mischievous raccoon’s gluttony causes him to get caught in a very precarious situation. He eats so much bread he can hardly walk and he barely makes it in time to hide behind the stack of firewood. Rowdy learns that selfishness isn’t nearly as much fun as he thought it would be and it can even be dangerous!

Then in “Rowdy Learns to Laugh” Savannah tries to comfort Rowdy when he is laughed at by his friends after losing his footing and tumbling from limb to limb. “Savannah finally gained her composure. ‘Rowdy, we weren’t trying to hurt your feelings. Sometimes things happen that we can’t help. And it sure has been your morning for things happening,’ she smiled. ‘Sometimes those things are really funny. If you could have seen just how funny you looked, you would have been laughing, too. It is better to laugh at yourself. Then your friends can laugh with you—not at you.” Rowdy pouted and didn’t say a word.” But eventually he learned another heartwarming lesson—this time about the difference between laughing at someone and laughing with someone.

The 40-minute companion CD included inside the book allows children the option of listening to the two exciting dramatized stories while coloring the full-page black and white illustrations if they choose to do so. The CD also has the Rowdy Theme Song which tells all about rascally Rowdy Raccoon in a fun-loving musical format.
