It is intended as a message about the realities of working through sexual abuse, and the potential for healing.

About the Author:
"Allan and Mary" are pseudonyms for the Catholic couple who went through this multi-year process. They grew as individuals, as a couple, and with their family as they faced the realities of their situation and reflected upon their experience.

The depth of revelation of the whole complicated perspective of how a shameful secret shoved under the rug can harmfully affect a whole family/community system is well done. I found myself as a counselor earmarking different parts for marriage counseling for specific themes like forgiveness, the wounded spouse's viewpoint and feelings, etc. So even though the book is specifically about sexual abuse and addiction, there is such a strong message of hope and forgiveness in working through extremely difficult marriages. This is not a message that the "world" provides today. Sometimes even the church doesn't stand against the worldly message of "seek your own happiness-now". Providing hope through risking the future by putting it in God's hands is a difficult message to get across. Having a success story to use as a living example is a wonderful resource.
