About the Author:

Dick Roberts is at home anywhere in the world. During the Korean War, he served with the U.S. Army Infantry. After the war, he began his civil engineering career which took him around the world, as he built tunnels, dams, and bridges in Australia - where he and his family lived for two years, then to Bolivia - where he took his family again for two years, California, Idaho, Metro Washington, DC, and finally Atlanta. Never one to sit still, he consulted with firms in Oregon, Boston, Washington, Singapore, New Guinea, Hong Kong, Thailand, most of Europe, and Turkey. Dick was a Principal Professional Associate and Vice President for a major design company, with more than forty-three years of experience in heavy civil construction and design. Twenty-five of these years were spent working for contractors providing estimates and as construction project manager on major tunnels, dams, bridges, marine and hydro-electric projects worldwide. He held jobs ranging from Chief Estimator to Regional Operations Manager. Dick spent eighteen years working for design firms, providing cost estimates, schedules, and constructability reviews for mass transmit tunnels, waste water tunnels, ocean outfalls, underground structures, and major bridges and highway projects. Dick and his wife Roberta have traveled most of the known world over the past eight years, seeing those sights that he had never taken time for before retirement.
