During his career, he has gained knowledge and experience in the following areas: > IT software systems research and development > Business process management and automation > Software systems portolio management > Integration of people, processes, information and software systems > Knowledge, information, data and document management Erik has been leading teams responsible for providing information management products and services to business teams. During the past decade, he has been involved in, and responsible for, various complex Knowledge, Information and Data (KID) management initiatives. One of Erik's passions is the definition and implementation of the ``digital organization of the future'' in which people, business processes, KID and software systems are integrated seamlessly into an effective and efficient business environment. Having worked in diverse environments, he has learned to identify and address the softer issues concerning the introduction of KID management solutions to business people. People are an organization's most important asset. During his career, Erik has shared his work and ideas with many colleagues and peers in his line of business. He is well known for his contributions in the areas of KID management, workflow, business process management and integration. Erik has presented his work at a number of workshops and conferences. In November 2006, he chaired an international conference where people from organizations in his line of business shared their ideas and work. Erik is happily married to Trish. She is one of the reasons for writing this book. Trish changed careers and started a new position in information management in 2007. She observed that there were not many textbooks that provide a broad introduction to the various concepts and principles of information management. This observation is shared by many of Erik's colleagues. This book is his attempt to write a comprehensive, accessible textbook in plain English.
