John R Carpenter is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Geological and Environmental Science at the University of South Carolina - Columbia. He is married to Charlene (Charlie) Carpenter. They live in Ballentine, SC, and are members of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Chapin, SC. John and Charlie have three grown children and seven grandchildren. In addition to writing, John enjoys recycling old barn wood into his "Rustic Creations" furniture, playing golf, enjoying grandchildren and traveling
