Sometimes we try to express the meaning of the bread by using the image of a great banquet given by a king. It is an image of God often used by our Lord in his stories, an image he would have learned as a Jewish child. At other times we see this bread as that which energizes and inspires a Christian to serve Jesus in the world-to try to be a kind of light where there is a darkness, such as suffering or poverty or any need.
