Every child living below the Mason-Dixon line knew the stories about Buh Rabbit and his ongoing, but always successful, struggle to outwit larger and stronger animals. Using this familiar theme, author Virginia Mixson Geraty has developed a parody around a Gullah family, with Buh Rabbit playing the role of Santa Claus and Buh Fox playing the "grinch." Gullah is an English-derived Creole language spoken by some African-American groups on the South Carolina and Georgia coasts.
Virginia Mixson Geraty , the world's foremost authority on Gullah, served as Gullah consultant for the BBC on the "Story of the English Language." A noted Gullah translator, she is also a Gullah instructor at the College of Charleston, where she received her doctorate in humane letters.
