Synopsis

In this updated and expanded second edition, Deputy Chief P.J. Norwood and Captain Sean Gray continue to push the fire service forward―linking scientific fire dynamics research with real-world tactical application. Building on findings from UL’s Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI) and studies across the globe, The Evolving Fireground examines how fuel, heat, and air interact to shape the outcome of every incident.

Norwood and Gray merge science with street sense, showing how today’s modern fire environment demands deliberate, coordinated, and evidence-driven action. Through practical insights, operational guidance, and scenario-based lessons, this edition equips firefighters, company officers, and incident commanders with the tools to make safer and more effective decisions on the fireground.
