PreSchool-In this lift-the-flap book, Max, an African-American youngster, interacts with his two friends and housemates-a purple pig and a blue elephant. Readers can open doors and windows to see the interiors of their house, wiggle the characters' favorite food (lime Jell-O), and make bubbles with the elephant. At the end, the three pull the shades and say good night. While the minimal descriptions of Max's home life may leave more to be desired ("This is where we live"; "We are a family"), the vivid colors and movable pieces should attract toddlers. The simply written text and cartoon art will entertain them at storytimes or during one-on-one reading.
