Included here is the rare two-page alternate ending, only seen in the French edition, as well as a new ten-page story and added pin-ups and sketchbook content by Paul.

Pope, a prolific young cartoonist, embodies the concept of comics as an international art form. His approach encompasses the drawing style of European bandes dessinees, the layouts of Japanese manga, and the panache, with just a soupcon of superhero dynamics, of American comics. This collection features Escapo, a mythical character with feet of clay. A disfigured escape artist, Escapo uses a facade of fearlessness to hide insecurity, for he knows he is no abler than anyone else to ultimately escape death. The scanty plots don't really measure up to Pope's sensuous brushwork and sophisticated storytelling art, but the purple dialogue is wholly appropriate for the big-top setting and characters. Given the parochial nature of the U.S. comics industry, it is probably unrealistic to hope that Pope, who works for overseas publishers and self-publishes domestically, is a harbinger of a long overdue globalization of the comics medium. American comics could only benefit were his broad-minded approach the rule and not the exception among comics artists. Gordon Flagg
