"This Quick Reference Guide for Teachers and Parents is one of the most useful books ever published to help you to help your teenager who has ADD or ADHD. The book's many facts and creative ideas are presented in an easy to read format and Ms. Zeigler writes directly and succinctly. The book also contains numerous diagrams and tables.
The main portion of this 352 page book consists of 75 different short chapters, each called a 'Summary.' These summaries range from a description of the neurological basis of ADD (attention deficit disorder) and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) to accommodations and strategies for helping your teen. The first section of these summaries covers the basic information needed to understand ADD and ADHD. Other sections include academic and learning issues, organizational skills, pertinent federal laws, useful medication, and classroom management.
There are summary tables that compare the behavior of ADD and ADHD students to other students. There is also a summary of the differing tendencies in behavior of boys and girls. In addition, Ms. Zeigler devotes a large portion of the book to teaching strategies in learning mathematics, improving memory, preparing written assignments, and combating disorganization.
The 75 summaries are followed by two appendices:
One contains a set of forms that can be used to improve studying, outlining essays, planning weekly projects, and similar tools. The second appendix helps the parent or teacher with such tasks as developing IEP's or assessing student behaviors.
This is the ideal book to read cover to cover, or for a busy parent or an overworked teacher to use as a bedside reference to help their teenager make the best use of his talents. If you want to help your teenager lead the fulfilling life he deserves, buy and use this book." --Jon Meyerson, LCSW-C, family therapist, writing in the newsletter of the Learning Disabilities Association of Montgomery County, Maryland
