El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar la factibilidad y viabilidad del uso de caña de bambú como material estructural para la construcción de viviendas sociales en las provincias de Salta y Tucumán (Noroeste de Argentina) que, por su clima subtropical, son aptas para el desarrollo de algunas especies de esta planta. Este objetivo de estudio tiene su fundamento en las experiencias observadas en países tales como Colombia, Ecuador, Costa Rica entre otros, en los cuales se utiliza esta caña como material de construcción aprovechando sus ventajas ambientales y sus interesantes propiedades mecánicas. Estas propiedades mecánicas sumadas al bajo peso de la caña permiten la construcción de estructuras resistentes y sumamente livianas lo cual favorece la buena respuesta de este tipo de viviendas ante eventos sísmicos
