Review - English The present volume is the academic outcome of an international symposium on the Balochi language held at the Department of Asian and African Studies, Uppsala University, on 17-20th August 2000 entitled "Linguistic Contact in Balochistan in Historical and Modern Times." The symposium for the first time brought together linguists and social sicentists working on the Balochi language and sociolinguistic issues in Balochistan. The articles in this volume aim at contributing to the study of Balochi in the context of linguistic contact and sociolingusitic processes. They use a variety of approaches and address a number of issues, such as how linguistic contacts between Balochi and neighbouring languages in historical times and at present have influenced both the structure of Balochi and of the neighbouring languages, and how the multilingual setting where Balochi is spoken affects language use in different situations and linguistic domains.
