This book is Part I of a gripping three-part journey for children and adults through the Old Testament. The fundamental belief of this guidebook: Whoever wants to understand the New Testament must know the Old Testament first. In selecting the texts, major emphasis was placed on the Book of Genesis. The reader does not require any prior knowledge. For adults, theological explanations are placed below or alongside the texts. For children, helpful hints in easy-to-understand language are set close to the pictures. It is the main educational concept of this book for pictures to have a decisive influence on the development of our children's faith. What we see at an early age has a deep impact on us and can leave a lasting impression on our minds, sometimes for an entire lifetime. If our children learn about biblical stories through high-quality artistic images, their notion of God will become as manifold, marvelous, and vast as the works of art they have seen. More than 130 works of art have been reproduced in the highest print quality. Part II of the Journey entitled: Stories About Kings, Judges, and Prophets (ISBN 978-3-9815308-3-4), will be published on April 18, 2017.

Review:
This is an amazing book, the likes of which we rarely see today. It is designed to be read by the parent with the child (ages 5+). Sturdy with a hardcover, there are over 300 pages of easy-to-read biblical text, full colour plates and commentary on the painting or sculpture. There are excellent column notes providing further information, possibly more suitable for older children or adults as it discusses Biblical concepts and imagery. (...) It will have 3 benefits: open the whole congregation to a new appreciation of religious art; familiarize everyone with major Hebrew Scripture stories; and finally offer an opportunity for exciting and creative exegesis with which all will be able to engage. --Common Ground, magazine of the Council of Christians and Jews, Winter 2014, David Gifford

The book is aimed at children and their parents, with the intention of rectifying Christian neglect of the Pentateuch, and respecting the reality of God s revelation to the Jews in the First Testament and being sensitive to Jewish understanding of those scriptures. --Church Times, London, The world s leading Anglican newspaper, October 24, 2014

This family storybook with masterpieces of art will introduce children to the Old Testament s beauty, while reminding adults of its cultural wisdom and its profound testimonies. --The Catholic Herald, London, October 11, 2013
