Synopsis

Domenico Zampieri, better known as Domenichino (Bologna, 21 October 1581 - Naples, 15 April 1641), was a prominent Italian Baroque painter of Romano-Bolognese classicism. Both Annibale Carracci and Domenichino were among the few landscape artists in the early Roman Baroque, and they would influence Claude Lorrain in the next century.Domenichino was not allowed to be inventive, but he placed himself as a great master, by his exact and expressive style, by his true colors, in first place after Raphael, Correggio, and Titian. His fresco paintings are especially valued. An admirer of Raphael's art, his style is affirmed in the creation of altarpieces and frescoes, characterized by a calm and luminous style of Renaissance art.He also achieved very high standards in portrait and landscape painting and worked as an architect and sculptor.
