Second edition "of the first work of the kind," 12mo, pp. 281, [1]; modern half black morocco over marbled boards, original spine title laid down; scattered foxing, ink stain on lower edge of first fifty pages, not affecting text, owner's signature of James Mead, Curator Emeritus of Marine Mammals at the Smithsonian on upper free endpaper, very good. M'Alpine, a student of George Husband Baird, the Gaelic scholar, here attempts to standardize Gaelic orthography, and place within the reach of "every brother Celt . a thorough knowledge of his native language" (from the testimonial letter).
