This is an unusual book made up of the catechetical writings of three authors - William Allen, John Kettlewell [Kettelwell] and Thomas Bray. It has a title page dated 1699, but each individual discourse has its own title page, usually dated 1703. The book is quarto (12 inches by 8 inches) and bound in full brown calf. The binding is rubbedand the joints are beginning to crack, but the book is intact and the contents are generally good to very good. The contents are as follows: (1) William Allen - Certain select disourses on thos emost important subjects, requisite to be well understood by a Catechist in laying the foundation of Christian Knowledge in the minds of Novitiates, viz, first, discourse on the doctrine of the two covenants both legal and evangical, and on faith and justification. [xxx], 344pp. The British Library have a copy of Allen's work bound with Kettlewell's work, in which the pagination of Kettlewell is the same as this copy. The British Library copy does not include the work by Thomas Bray. The overall 1699 title page covers Allen and Bray, but makes no mention of the Kettlewell work.
