Uncoloured; light spotting and minor toning, otherwise a fine example. A large wall map of the Holy Land made up from six sheets (seven in the book, but two parts are conjoined on one of the sheets). By George Hornius/Jan Jansson. Itinera et Mansiones Deserti. The map is made from six sheets showing the whole the Holy Land divided among the Twelve Tribes on both banks of the Jordan. Each map has a Latin title with the names of the tribes it features. From: Jan Jansson, Novus Atlas, Accuratissimia Orbis Antiqui Delineatior, vol. 6. George Hornius (1620-1670), a Dutch cartographer, wrote the text. These maps were enlarged according to the map of Christiaan van Adrichom from 1590. Each map has interesting scenes. For example: the map of Judah shows Sodom and Gomorroh burning. Probably one of the largest maps of the Holy Land available. A copy of this map is displayed on a special wall in the Knesset building.
