Clancy is an Irish boy in a family of six children. Growing up in the harsh slums of Chicago's south side during the 1960s, Clancy learns the rough facts of life from his garbage man father and police captain uncle.

But life changes drastically for him when he is drafted into the Marine Corps and ends up in Vietnam during the brutal Tet Offensive. Fighting alongside his fellow soldiers, he is overpowered during a firefight and taken into captivity, where he endures the unthinkable. Eventually rescued, he rejoins his unit and continues fighting in the war, earning numerous medals for his service.

Born in Chicago, Michael J. McCormack is a decorated US Marine who received the Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Frame for his service during the Tet Offensive in the Vietnam War. A graduate from the University of Missouri Journalism School, he pioneered the country's first citizen band radio newspaper.

He dedicates Between the Sheets, Behind Enemy Lines to the millions of men and women who have served in the US military, the 58,261 names on the Vietnam Memorial Wall, and his father, Carl McCormack, Sr., a role model and decorated World War II Marine Corps veteran.
