Battle Cry was Uris's debut novel, drawing heavily upon his own experiences serving with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II. The novel follows a Marine communications battalion through training and combat and became a major commercial success, later adapted into the 1955 film of the same name.

Original cloth boards show considerable shelf and edge wear, including rubbing and fraying at the spine ends, wear and some exposure at the corners, rubbing along the board edges, scattered scuffing and marks to the cloth, and general age-related wear. Spine lettering and front Marine Corps emblem remain clearly visible. Interior shows age toning and occasional spotting/soiling but appears generally clean and intact. Signed by Leon Uris on the front free endpaper.
