Original dust jacket, 9.25 x 10", oblong 8vo. In good condition. Dust jacket shows the most wear: Soiled hinges; scuffed edges; small chips at head and tail of spine; & light foxing on front cover. Red cloth boards lightly scuffed at edges and corners. Head and ail of spine scuffed; gilt lettering soiled on spine but overall bright and clean on front board. Sendak signed half-title page, under the title. Light toning throughout text-block, mostly at edges of leaves. Binding tight and intact. Please see photos. Maurice Bernard Sendak (1928 2012) was an American author and illustrator of children's books. His book Where the Wild Things Are was first published in 1963. Sendak s surreal children s book loosely based on the sensational Lindbergh baby kidnapping case of 1932. Sendak received the National Book Ward for Children s Books for Picture Books and the Caldecott Honor. Jim Henson s 1986 film Labyrinth was at least partially inspired by the book. The closing credits of the film state Jim Henson acknowledges his debt to the works of Maurice Sendak . First Edition Second Issue SIGNED BY SENDAK!
