8vo. Pp. 314. With three appendices. Index. Bound in black cloth with silver lettering on spine. Light wear to cloth; address label of John Slater on the front free endpaper. In the dust jacket that shows light edge-wear, price of $6.95 price intact on front flap. With a generous inscription on the front free endpaper, signed and dated. Lengthy inscription to John Slater is dated November 1972, Naples, Florida. Slater was the "Cafeteria King," an innovator in institutional food service who is perhaps better known for the exotic menagerie kept at his Florida estate, including Flipper's sister. The author's observations on prison reform, published in the immediate wake of the notorious Attica Prison Riot (September 1971). Wylie's narrative also serves as an informal biography of Anna Kross, who served as New York City Commissioner of Correction from 1953 to 1966.
