Octavo, [6], 89 pages. In Fair condition. Bound in full green cloth with gilt titling to front board and blind tooling to boards. Spine and boards have heavy rubbing and scuffing, with scattered chipping and staining; spine has separated from binding and is attached to text block only by rear endpaper. Text block has age-toning to edges and heavy dust soiling to top edge; title page, copyright page, and memorial page are attached only by sewing guide; chipping to fore margin of some pages, and splitting to gutters throughout. Presentation copy inscribed by author on title page to a friend. Shelved in Room A octavo overflow. Joseph Sampson Gamgee (1828-1886) was most famous for inventing "Gamgee Tissue," a revolutionary absorbent surgical dressing composed of a thick layer of cotton wool enclosed in gauze. It transformed surgical wound care and equine medicine and is still manufactured and used today. 1415943. Special Collections - Upstairs.
