About this Item
[8], 181 pp. 12mo, dark navy cloth, bold and bright red letting. Spine leaning just slightly, blind impression of a name jotted down over the FFEP, small and faint splotch to spine 1.5' from tail, wartime paper showing just a bit of typical tanning, otherwise a very clean and sharp copy. DJ has a .5' x 1' chip at head of spine, two other short chips and some light rubbing to extremities, some light soiling to rear white portion, head of flap hinges tape-reinforced, otherwise very bright and attractive in mylar wrap. "Comedy deals with that portion of our suffering that is exempt from tragedy." An excellent copy of De Vries's third novel, scarce in any state, a satirical novel of political, academic, and family life. Signed and inscribed by the author in blue pen: "Inscribed for Michael Hargraves the incredible collector" d. Sept. 9, 1981. In addition to being, indeed, an incredible collector, Hargraves compiled the authoritative bibliographies of Henry Miller and Harry Crews as well as a regional bibliography of Lake Chapala.
