Signed and numbered edition of 5 plus 2 artist proofs. 54 pages. 12 x 12 inches in a layflat presentation. Richard Newton began making artists books in 1974. The early books used ink, or were created using a Black and White Xerox machine. Most of the books are one-of-a-kind. However, some editions exist; the largest being an edition of ten. In 1975, Newton began using the newly marketed Xerox 6500 color copier to produce the pages for his books. APPREHENDED was one of his books originally produced on Xerox 6500 as a limited edition of nine documents, each signed by the artist.The book is included in the collections of George Jeffries, Linda Frye Burnham, Ken Schwartz, and Julianne Kemper Gilliam. APPREHENDED, contains images of strong women layered with women in trouble; from Elizabeth Taylor to Patty Hearst to Squeaky Fromme. Both APPREHENDED, 1975 and THIS PHOTO EXCLUSIVE TO YOU, 1976 were exhibited in the first large-scale international exhibition of artists books at Documenta 6, Kassel, Germany, 1977.
