In the original publisher's Near Fine glossy pictorial card covers. Map and Illustrations, etc. The pages are uniformly lightly browning as usual in this type of cheaper paper, but the book otherwise is As New and looks unread. This copy originally came from the Library of Professor Emeritus Ivor Wilks, the noted British Africanist & Historian, and has a personally dedicated and dated inscription to him on the front free endpaper by the Author (" To Ivor Wilks with compliments from Ifi Amadiume 27/6/87) . Apart from this note by the Author there are NO other Inscriptions or marks, the book is clean, tight and bright, and likely came straight from the Publisher, as also enclosed are 2 A4 sheets, printed on one side only, of Errata! . "In this work, Amadiume attempts to demonstrate that Igbo societies are based on a matriarchal foundation, as is the case in most of Africa. In her analysis of the data the author describes the many ways in which Igbo women generate and manipulate ideologies in the society, as for example, in the very sophisticated and egalitarian system, extemely favorable to women, found in the traditional system in Nnobi. At the center of this system is the worship of the goddess Idemili, a religion and culture dating back to 3000 BC ". Scarce Title.
