Add to basketElephant folio folder containing a 79 page monograph and 24 (of 27) plates, as issued. Edge of text discolored along spine of wrappers. Plates are heavy photographic reproductions. Top and bottom inside flaps folded and cracked at corners. Paper over boards, heavy cloth spine. Boards soiled and rubbed at edges, but whole and sound. Else good. The large paper title label on front board has a presentation inscription in ink "To Sam Smilow good friend & business guardian. With a World of Appreciation, Walter C. Alvarez"; which appears to be the signature of the noted medical doctor and author. First edition of a monograph on the ten Aramaic 5th century BC papyri discovered by a team of workmen engaged in constructing a railway near Assuan, illumining a remote corner of the ancient Semitic world and the life of a Jewish community on a small island in the Nile.
