Suitable for little leaguers on up to the professional ranks, the book outlines the fundamentals of hittingchoosing bats, the swing, the stancewith detail and clarity. The advanced aspects of hittinge.g., reading spin, situational hitting, and buntingreceive thorough treatment too. In later chapters Carew discusses other great hitters like Don Mattingly and Eddie Murray. Well-written in a personable, conversational tone, and illustrated with excellent photographs, the book compares favorably with Ted Williams's classic The Science of Hitting and Charlie Lau's The Winning Hitter ( LJ 6/15/84).
