About this Item
120 pages : illus., facsimiles, portraits ; 29 cm .; decorated mustard boards ; dj in mylar. TLS laid in from Jenkins to Margaret Waring of Comanche, Texas dated 12 February 1973 (prior to book publication) : "Dear Margaret: Thank you for your kind letter. I have tried several times to write the story of the Audubon Caper, but it always falls flat. It makes a good tale when told, especially since it grows each time in the telling, but is apparently not susceptible to being written." Signed "John". An anthology of several of Jenkins's annual Christmas "offerings" sent to friends and customers over the previous decade. The subtitle "Confessions of a Texas Bookmaker" is something of a black joke, as Jenkins was heavily implicated in the "Texfake" scandal of forged historical ephemera in the late 1980s. Store Description
This is no Half Price Books nor Strand Bookstore, neither a Powell's nor a Library Buyers, rather one person selling books as a side hustle and a passion. When you deal with me, you deal with me, not an anonymous clerk. I presume sales to be final except in case of substantial condition discrepancy or lost and strayed shipments, and I'm not at home to buyer's remorse, so don't EVEN go there.
Books will be wrapped securely in unused newspaper stock and shipped in bubble-padded mailing envelopes. Additional bubble-wrap may be included for large, heavy, or specially fragile items. After multiple instances of the US Post Awful losing books for me (it averaged about one per month) I have changed to UPS for US domestic shipments. Unfortunately, this also means I CANNOT ship to Post Office box addresses any longer (the delivery trucks won't fit into the little boxes) and I have to charge more S&H than I used.
I send international shipments via the broker Global Post, at International First Class rates. This will of necessity delay delivery at times.
