The first with Holroyd's pencilled notes in the text and on the rear endpapers; the second with a presentation autograph letter signed, 1p. 8vo, London, 2 May 1984 ("I owe you so much for the way you have encouraged & sustained me all these years"), and, loosely inserted, a Bodley Head review slip, an autograph letter signed from Sean French at The Sunday Times, 1p. 8vo, 11 April 1984 ("Claire [Tomalin] told me she'd arranged with you that you would review this . . ."), and a carbon-copy typescript, 4pp. 4to, of Holroyd's review, printed in The Sunday Times (as "The save-the-writer campaign"), 20 May 1984.
