First Edition in dust jacket. A fine association copy, inscribed by Thurber to Morris and Margaret Ernst on the front free endpaper: "Jolly / Times / to Morris / and Margaret / Jim and Helen." One of the most influential civil liberties lawyers of the twentieth century, Morris Ernst championed cases that expanded Americans' rights to privacy and freedom from censorship. He was the literary lawyer who defended Random House in the famous 1933 obscenity trial of James Joyce's Ulysses, and represented Thurber in several business transactions. His wife Margaret Ernst collaborated with Thurber on three books for which she wrote the text and he illustrated. Slightly faded at the edges, else a very good or better copy in a very good jacket, which is scratched on the rear panel and has a few short tears and creases at the edges.
